Principal Investigator

Dr. Leon Barron BSc(Hons), PhD, PgCAP, MRSC, MCSFS, FHEA

Reader in Analytical & Environmental Sciences

I lead the Emerging Chemical Contaminants team within the Environmental Research Group at Imperial. My team focuses on the detection, monitoring and risk assessment of new and emerging chemical hazards and their potential for harm to public health, safety and the environment. We specialise in the development and application of new analytical methods to rapidly understand the sources, distribution, fate and effects of thousands of chemicals in all environmental compartments including water, soil, air and the biosphere. We are particularly interested in the analysis of wastewater to understand population-level consumption of and exposure to chemicals, as well as the impact anthropogenic waste has on our environment.
